ABSTRACT
Background: The combination of physical and psychiatric pathology may complicate the diagnosis, course and treatment of patients. The effect of this comorbidity leads to increased levels of disability, higher health care costs, longer hospitalization, more unnecessary diagnostic tests, more frequent rehospitalizations, more medical care and response to treatment less satisfactory.
Objective: To determine the frequency of anxiety and depression in a sample of adult patients attending the emergency department at Hospital Angeles Pedregal.
Method: X made in order to investigate the anxiety-depressive symptoms in patients who go to the emergency room doctor for any reason. To determine the frequency of anxiety and depressive symptoms by anxiety and depression scale hospital.
Results: We found a frequency of 34.8 patients with anxiety and depression 8.7%. The emergency physician identified one patient with panic attacks.
Conclusions: we need a systematic and timely identification of anxiety disorders and depression in emergency rooms because this could be the starting point for monitoring these patients. The lack of attention to this area of conditions can increase morbidity and mortality.
