ABSTRACT
Management of the vertical growth and open Management of vertical growth and open bite are two of the most difficult problems of orthodontic therapy. Patients with long face syndrome are prone to develop a severe skeletal vertical growth pattern. The purpose of this article was to evaluate dental, skeletal and soft tissues changes in a patient treated with high pull headgear and twin blocks combination, as well as fixed appliances. The results after 5 years of treatment showed partial changes in the restriction of horizontal and vertical maxillary and mandible growth. The patient maintained the original skeletal growth pattern, with class I molar relationship, adequate transversal relationship, 1.5 mm overbite, 3 mm overjet and a good balanced profile. The headgear-twin blocks with fixed appliance therapy could be considered an effective treatment for the vertical growth control and open bite problems in growing mixed-dentition patients.
