The effect of deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA) in children with congenital heart disease on subsequent cognitive and motor performance is of great importance, and a number of case reports and patient series document neurological impairment associated with DHCA. However, only one large, controlled investigation of this issue has been conducted.
