ABSTRACT
Dr. Esther Chapa Tijerina was a member of the first generation of women physicians to graduate from Mexico’s National University (UNAM) in the 20th century, the first woman to earn a position there through opposition, and the first to be named Director of the National School of Nursing and Obstetrics. She stood out for her participation in several social issues and her interest in the rights of women in several different areas.
