ABSTRACT
Objective: The purpose of this investigation is to compare the treatment of keratocyst used in the HE CMNR in 1980-2000 period with the keratocyst’s treatment reported in literature.
Material and methods: We performed this work in junction with the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery and Anatomopathology Service of the Hospital de Especialidades Centro Médico Nacional La Raza, of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social; we take for this, all patients with diagnostic of odontogenic keratocyst in the 1980-2000 period.
Results: We review a total of 37 cases, the 100% was treated with conservative treatment consistant in enucleation and curettage. The frequency of odontogenic keratocyst was 1.85 cases per year; the age of predilection was the third decade of life with 15 cases (40.55%), followed of fourth decade with 7 cases (18.90%); it affected more frequently the male sex with 21 cases (56.75%). The predilection site was mandible with 30 cases (81.08%), with 5 cases (13.50%) of recurrence
Conclusions: The Enucleation and Curettage are an efficient alternative treatment, because avoid more radical treatments and the recurrency is minimal; however, is important to follow patient for a long time.
