This study was done in order to determine the presence of the ectoparasite Varroa jacobsoni O. in hives from 25 municipalities in the State of Tamaulipas, Mexico. This mite has been present since 1987, and has rapidly spread throughout the State of Texas. Seven hundred and twenty samples were collected from 130 apiaries distributed throughout the municipalities mentioned above. From this number, 283 washing tests of adult bees, and 437 tests of debris combined with a miticide, were done. The parasite was found in 14 apiaries distributed in the municipalities of Matamoros, Valle Hermoso and Rio Bravo. This is the first report of Varroa disease in the State of Tamaulipas.REFERENCES
