ABSTRACT
Milbond, Trisil, Quibensil, Rekasil, Boldclay and Fusox trademark aluminosilicates were sampled for physical, chemical and
in vitro aflatoxin B
1 adsorbent efficacy analysis. Each sample was analysed for potassium, sodium, calcium, silicium and aluminum content throughout atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Potassium content varied from zero to 0.89%; calcium from zero to 0.76%; sodium from 0.42% to 1.68%; aluminum from 0.9% to 8.15% and silicium from 13.3% to 62.7%. These findings indicate that some aluminosilicates contain neither potassium nor calcium, but all of them contain sodium, silicium and aluminum. Silicium and aluminum relationship was as follows: Milbond, 0.416; Trisil, 0.356; Quibensil, 0.13; Rekasil, 0.276, Boldclay, 0.337 and Fusox, 0.146. Particle size of Milbond, Trisil, Quibensil and Rekasil corresponded to the zeolite mineral, but Boldclay did not.
In vitro adsorbent efficacy of aflatoxin B
1 was positive with Milbond and Fusox. These results indicate that there is no control of efficacy in the trademark aluminosilicates used as adsorbent agents of aflatoxin B
1 in Mexico.
