ABSTRACT
In order to study the relationship between plasma progesterone at the moment of embryo transfer and subsequent rate pregnancy, eighty four bovine recipients were bled immediately after non-surgical transference. Embryos were transferred seven days after oestrus using elastic equipment. Blood samples were collectecl by coccigeal vein venipuncture, and plasma progesterone concentration was measured by radioimmunoassay. Diagnosis of pregnancy was determined by rectal palpation 42 days after the transfer. Data was analized by ANOVA and Chi-square. Plasma progesterone level on the day of the transfer for pregnant (3.005 ± 0.98 ng/ml) and non-pregnant recipients (3.218 ± 1.08 ng/ml) was not significantly different (P › 0.05). Recipients showing progesterone concentration of ≤ 2.4 ng/ml; 2.5-4.9 ng/ml and ≥ 5 ng/ml had 47.37%, 60% and 40% of pregnancy rates, respectively (P › 0.05). There was no evidence to sustain that progesteroine concentration at the moment of embryo transfer is related to pregnancy rates of bovine recipients in this study.
