When searching for the optimal dose of a chemical agent that might liquify the medium growth for the screwworm larvae, several assays have been done. Among these agents, calcium chloride, hidrochloric acid and calcium oxide, have been tested. The goals of these assays were done in order to dehydrate, hidrolize and solvate the residues of the cultured screwworm media larvae. In this study the following results were found: A solid and a liquid phase were formed, when the residues mixed with calcium chloride salt at 2% or in a 40% solution (this last ratio was: 1 to 20 of the solid and liquid phases). Separation of the two layers increased, when either centrifugation or hot water were used. Calcium oxide is not advisable, since high percentage of it is needed. Also the pH increases to a dangerous level (13.8). Similar results were observed when treated with hidrochloric acid, except for the pH that decreased to 4.00.REFERENCES
