ABSTRACT
As discussed in the first part of this series, cataract surgery has greatly evolved over time and it is now considered to be a refractive procedure. Its success is largely determined by the accurate calculation of the intraocular lens as well as the use of emulsification technique, micro incision and other advances. The most important factors for an accurate calculation are: immersion biometry, optical coherence interferometry, keratometry and third generation formulas (SRK-T, Holladay, and Hoffer Q),which prediction capacity depend on the correct application of A, SF and ACD constants which vary for every formula. It is necessary to be aware of the whole range of variables and their correct application is indispensable for successful interventions and visual satisfaction of the patient. It is fundamental to accurately determine the dioptric power of the lens in the different refractive circumstances discussed in this paper such as hyperopia, myopia, keratoplasty and refractive surgery. A great variety of met hods have been developed to improve the calculation of central corneal power after refractive surgery, but none of them are sufficiently accurate and they produce very different values.
