Regional and commercial integration of Northamerica implies, apart from an increased commercial flow among Canada, the United States and Mexico, a major promotion of professional services among professionals of these three countries. With this new relationship, professional associations and colleges of veterinary medicine will have to improve their relations and common understanding. This paper is presented in order to contribute to the comprehension of veterinary education and practice in these three countries. A general background on veterinary medicine is presented, analyzing the profile of the candidate who whishes to study veterinary medicine, the selection process to initiate college studies, the evaluation process for institutions and graduates and specialists. Finally, the certification process to start the professional practice is analyzed, and some areas for future coperation are presented.REFERENCES
