ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to induce azoospermia in the dogwith the injection of methylcyanoacrilate (MCA) in the tail of the epididymis. MCA was injected in the tail of both epididymis of 15 medium and small size dogs. Two other dogs were injected with distilled water as the control group. Sperm were collected and evaluated prior to the treatment, 15 and 30 days after the treatment, and every other month till day 180. Nine dogs were azoospermic 15 days after the treatment and 13 (86.7%) by day 30
th. After 180 days, one dog still had sperms in the ejaculate, with high proportion of dead (40%) and abnormal ones (60%). Histological examination of the testis in the dogs injected with MCA showed a difuse interstitial fibrosis, with mononuclear cell infiltration and necrosis. In the control animals no significant changes ocurred. The injection of MCA in the epididymal tail in dogs is a cheap, quick, simple and practical method, that could be used in massive sterilization programmes to control their overpopulation.
