ABSTRACT
Introduction: Asthma is one of the main causes of emergency attention and infantile chronic illness. It is interesting to know the asthma prevalence of Veracruz Harbor.
Material and methods: Prospective, longitudinal and selectively study in a significant sample of scholars for identify asthma and age at the moment of diagnosis, it was measured throught; nominal, percentual and Chi test.
Results: 3,911 scholars, asthmatic 512 (13.09%), male 51.75% standard deviation 6.363 and Chi 0.9797, female 48.24% standard deviation 7.071, Chi 0.9880, in primary school prevalence 14.93% and secondary school prevalence 5.73%, the asthma diagnoses; 59.75% age before to 4 years old.
Discussion: The lack of knowledge of the asthma risks, as well as the deterioration of the home and environment, increase the asthma prevalence, it is convenient to elaborate programs for prevention and information for decrease the risk factors.
Conclusions: The asthma prevalence in scholars at Veracruz Harbor is of 13.09%, with a slight predominance in males, and been more frequent in younger and diminishing in adolescence.
