ABSTRACT
Objective: To establish the relation between the familiar antecedent of atopic disease, characteristics of feeding, frequency of exhibition towards environmental allergens and the allergic diseases in patients taken care of in the unit of Pediatria of the General Hospital of Mexico. To identity the main agents that caused by prick skin them tests.
Material and methods: 535 clinical files of patients were reviewed, they were grouped according to familiar sex, age, antecedent of atopic disease, autoimmunity and immunodeficiency; the age of ablactation was classified in early (0 to 3 months), adapted of 4 to 6 months and delayed of 7 months, and the types of used foods were evaluated too. It was taken into account the diagnosis as well as the results from the prick skin tests. Finally, the environmental factors in each patient were taken into account: dust, humidity, coexistence with animals, smoking, environmental pollution and contact with flowers.
Results: They were 58% males and females 42%. 30% were smaller of 6 years old, 45% of 6 to 10 years old and 24% of 11 to 15 years old. 30.8% with antecedent of atopic disease of first degree and 27.6% of second degree. 48% received breast feeding during less than 3 months. Early ablactation was done in 62%. Cutaneous tests were positives to 849 allergens, 280 existed towards dust mites. 38 cases were of rhinitis, 7 of atopic dermatitis, 277 of rhinosinusitis, 117 of asthma, 21 of bronchial hyperreactivity, 58 of sinusitis, 6 of allergic conjunctivitis and 11 existed of prolonged infection.
Conclusions: In this group the allergic disease is of multifactorial etiologic, the familiar antecedent of atopia is determining, the early ablactation and brevity of breast feeding also conditions it, the main allergen is the dust mites and finally the rhinosinusitis predominates in this group.
