A clinical case of anthrax in a while-tailed deer
(Odoicoleus virginianus) from Salazar, in the State of Mexico, Mexico, is described. The case showed bloat, subcutaneous haemorrhages and lack of blood clotting. The carcass showed haemothorax, pulmonary congestion, haemopericardium and severe splenomegaly. Spleen smears revelated short chains of capsulated Gram positive rods. Diagnostic implications of anthrax in deer are discussed.
