In order to evaluate the capacity of
Ornithonyssus bacoti to transmit.
Trypanosoma cruzi, different instars of
O. bacoti were analyzed. They were collected from mice which presented high
T. cruzi parasitaemias. Groups of 10 acari were ground at different times from t=9h to t=24h. Att=0, bloodstream tripomastigote forms were mainly observed. In the period from 10h to 24h, epimastigote forms were observed and after this time the spheromastigote forms were the most abundant. The macerated material obtained from t=0 to 5=24h, was inoculated to normal mice orally and the infection with
T. cruzi was achieved. Results show that juvenile and adult instars of
O. bacoti are susceptible to
T. cruzi, and it is possible to conclude therefore, that they play a vector role during a short period.
