ABSTRACT
Objective: To demonstrate the effectiveness of cyanoacrylate for closure of wounds by trauma and thus determine what is best for the management of superficial wounds in the skin by trauma, conventional polypropylene suture or the use of cyanoacrylate.
Methods: Comparative study with 30 patients with superficial wounds on the skin caused by trauma, divided into two groups. The Group 1 was managed with cyanoacrylate, the Group 2 was managed with conventional suturing. Evaluated in the study: age, gender, size of the wound, the wound site, wound dehiscence, coaptation of the edges of the wound, the wound aesthetics, time of completion of the procedure. We performed wound management to patients in two groups were assigned the same random and underwent the procedure for the type of group. To establish the difference between the two groups we use the χ
2 test, considering a p-value ‹ 0.05 statistically significant.
Results: The age, gender, size of the wound, the distribution of the wounds in the body, dehiscence coaptation and no significant statistical difference. In terms of time and the aesthetic differences were statistically significant (p values ‹ 0.001 and p = 0.010 respectively), with benefits for the Group 1.
Conclusions: The method of closure of superficial wounds in the skin with cyanoacrylate, a method is reliable, secure, easy to learn, which gives a better appearance and is done in much less time than with conventional suturing.
