ABSTRACT
Through the years, it has reported increment the frequency of sensitization to indoor vs outdoor aeroallergens. We revised the skin prick test released in 2,000 children with asthma or allergic rhinitis; along 10 years, we determine the difference in frequency en positive either airborne allergen. In all time, the most common positive allergic reaction was to house dust mites (89%). The second most frequent allergen was aspergillus (10%). The frequency of positive patients to skin prick test did not have changes along 10 years. However we observed small changes in the frequency of positive patients to specific airborne allergens. When we considered together outdoor vs indoor allergens we observed significative changes in the positivity to these allergens (P › 0.05). The frequency of sensitization to indoors allergens significatively increased since 1989 to 1999. lnstead, the frequency of sensitization to outdoors allergens, such as pollens, decreased in the same time. We suggest that the longer permanence indoors due to environmental contingencies in Mexico City and the decrement in the wooded areas, have provoked these changes. It would be interesting to investigate if these changes can affect the frequency of asthma or allergic rinithis in the pediatric population of Mexico City.
