The importance of specific immunotherapy in asthma

ABSTRACT

A descriptive and prospective study in severe asthmatic patients from Calixto García General Hospital out patient Allergic department was made. They were divided in 2 groups of 30 patients each one by a simple aleatoric method: study with immunotherapy treatment and control, treated with Bufferplacebo. We considered skin Prick Test, total seric IgE and spirometry at the beginning and after one year, to evaluate the usefulness of immunotherapy. We found in the study group that Prick Test became negative in 16.7%, and improvements of spirometric values in 33%. The changes in total IgE were not significative. The modifications of these parameters were-seen in 6 to 9 and 10 to 15 years groups.
