ABSTRACT
Diabetes Mellitus represents one of ten major causes of death in the world. This is one of the main problems of health that affects around 6% of world population, in Mexico there is about 8.2% of population between 20 and 69 years old that suffer Diabetes Mellitus and about 30% of affected people do not know they have it. The current study is transversal and descriptive, it was developed in the support group for patients with chronic degenerative diseases of the Pio X Health Center in Monterrey, N.L. (Mexico); in this study about dietetic valuation has been proved that independently of food type (modified or free) people eat all their food with appetite. However, it has been noticed that a high percentage of patients who have a diet according to their suffering, specially those with both patologies diabetes/arterial hypertension, do not like their food maybe because a diabetic's diet is less flexible and varied. On the other hand, it is theorized that diabetic or diabetic hypertense patients are assisted with their food preparation; although, this does not happen in our study where almost all of them cook their own food. The behavior of nutritional status distribution in both patients (diabetic and diabetic hypertense patients) is similar showing obesity and morbid obesity quite often. Comparing our population with a study made in Spain, we can affirm that the behavior of their attitude to eat food with appetite is similar (Pio X: 63.8%; Spain: 69.5%); but there was a big difference in the perception that if they like foods they eat (Pio X: 14%, Spain:97%). It has been noticed an acceptable metabolic and nutritional status that we think is consequent because patients belong to a control group. So, it is recommendable the importance and follow-up of a nutritional surveillance for diabetic and diabetic hypertense patients that provide a better life quality.REFERENCES
