ABSTRACT
Eating disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Eating Disorders not otherwise specified) are complex disorders characterized by deviations in eating behavior, due to an altered body image and an intense fear of gaining weight. In recent years many authors have developed assessment methods to identify eating disorder symptoms, self-report inventories and structured interviews are the two major types of assessment procedures specific to eating disorders. This paper briefly describes: EAT, EDI, BULIT-R, BITE, QEWP-R, EDE-Q and SCOFF, their general characteristics, scoring method, availability and suggestions on their use. It also describes related measures, that can be used together with eating disorder assessment instruments, such as body image and food intake.
