ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to analyze the differences in the work of academic men and women of a public university as well as their situation of health. Material and methods: It is an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study, in academic personnel of half time and complete time that work in front of group for more than 6 months. 145 academic people participated. They were randomly selected by a stratified proportional sampling. A structured interview was made besides to measure, to weigh, to take the arterial tension and a peripheral blood sample to quantify glucose and cholesterol. Variables of study: 1. Socio-demographics (age, sex, civil state, number of children). 2. Of the work (professional category, professional antiquity and in the work place, activities made, shift, working hours in front of group, existence of another job). 3. Physical health (more frequent pathologies, numbers of glucose, cholesterol, AT, Body Mass Index) Results: 61.8% men and 38.2% women, the average age was of 47 years, with average antiquity of 18 years. Educational technicians 49.6%, investigator professor 9.4% career professor 40.9%. 37% presented health problem, the chronic degenerative were most frequent. Significant differences were found (p ‹.05) in relation to: Antiquity in the institution, type of appointment, to have another job, hours in front of group, to present arterial hypertension, hipoglicemy. Conclusions: The results show us differences in labour and health aspects. If it is wanted to advance towards the gender equality, to continue with this type of studies becomes necessary. This will help to set the guidelines and implement job policies to guarantee the equality of opportunities in the jobs, for both sexes.REFERENCES
