ABSTRACT
The present work was made at the laboratories of the Agronomy School at Nuevo León University and in the Research Center for the Natural Resources (CIReNa) laboratory. Essential oil of oregano from Higueras town, specifically at Infiernillo locality in Picachos Mountain was characterized. Five sampling sites were randomly selected, delimiting an area of 10 m X 3 m (30 m2) each. The following parameters were taken: location, plant height, leaf cover. The collected oregano was placed in a drying camera at 65°C by 72 hours. The leaves were separated from the stems. The hectare production of the green and dry biomass was evaluated. Around 15 grams of leaves were ground to make the chemical analyses that included dry matter, ashes, raw protein, raw fiber, etereo extract and free nitrogen extract. At CIReNa´s laboratory the essential oil extraction was made using the drag-by-water-steam method and with the collected oil the sample was prepared to characterize it in the gas chromatograph. The total characterization of present compounds in the oregano oil was determined in Chihuahua University. The results showed an advance in the study of the oregano, since at the moment data on the chemical composition for essential oils of this species had not been reported.REFERENCES
