ABSTRACT
In the first half of the 19
th century medicine was referred to as hospital medicine because the great volume of sick people in hospitals allowed for the performance of multiple studies of which their advances were applied to the patients in the second half of the century. In the 20
th century social medicine offered the patients and their families previously unknown support. Currently these measures work in harmony under the umbrella of institutions for which we propose the model of institutional medicine.
