ABSTRACT
Schizophrenic patients have deficiences for solving problems, but thei nature and specificity is still a motive of controversy. Based on the theory which holds that verbal thought is the organizing function of all intellec tual activity, 30 paranoid schizophrenic patients were studies and com pared to 30 healthy subjects paired by age, sex and academic education Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) was used but initial result showed no major differences, except in the IQs. However, thought mul tiple regression models, factorial analysis and structural analysis, signifi cative qualitative differences were found in the structure relating the func tions within the groups. The model obtained for the control group is consistent with the neuropsychological theory on problem solving, while that obtained for the schizophrenic group suggests that there are dys functions in the integration of the information as a result of the disvinculation of thought from the other cognitive abilities.
