ABSTRACT
The present paper explores one of the alternatives less discussed when facing an unintended pregnancy, which is giving birth. In this paper, the psychosocial consequences in the children born as a product of unintended pregnancies are described. These consequences range from infant mortality to severe adaptation problems during infancy and late in adulthood as demonstrated by longitudinal studies (up to twenty-three years) discussed in the article. A description of studies, which show that the consequences of giving birth to unintended pregnancies children can reach the status of public health problems, is included. The paper presents diverse studies with similar findings conducted in different countries both in American and Europe.
