Impact of the use of Heberfastline® pregnancy diagnosis in consultations of menstrual regulation (MR) in the Province of Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, from July 2006 to January 2007

ABSTRACT
It was carried out a descriptive and interventive study to evaluate the impact of the use Pregnancy Diagnostician HeberFastLine
®; a product elaborated in the Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of Sancti-Spiritus, registered with a high specificity (100%) and sensibility (99.7%); in consultations of Menstrual Regulation (RM) previous to performing the procedure in period from July 2006 to January 2007. The sample was made up by 4,539 patients who had the diagnostician. The diagnosis was carried out starting from gathering of the tomorrow’s first urine and in the positive cases we proceeded to the interruption depending of the Age of Pregnancy. To validate the gathering of data, the beneficiaries patients were registered and the execution of the established flow chart. With the diagnostician’s use, we found 41.6% of ribbons with negative result, where the risk was eliminated, the assisted teenagers represented 28.6% and out of them 12.06% avoided the procedure, 11.1% of the patients had the antecedent of Pelvic Inflammatory Illness, out of them 47.0% had ribbons with negative results, 72.6% had the antecedent of previous interruptions, from which 40.6% of negative ribbons, only 50.5% of the studied patients underwent RM. Out of a total of 53 diagnoses, 28.3% was ectopic pregnancy, out of them 84.6% non complicated and 28.3% ovary cysts as cause of secondary amenorrhea, with a percentage of variability of -23.6% of induced abortions in the province during the second semester of 2006 with regard to the first one.
