ABSTRACT
Purpose: To compare the post-PRK stromal findings in eyes treated with mitomycin-C
vs. without mitomicyn-C, by using confocal microscopy.
Methods: 20 eyes of 10 patients underwent PRK, 0.02% mitomycin-c was applied for 60 seconds in every left eye after stromal laser ablation. Confocal microscopy was done one week after surgery.
Results: Corneal epithelium was normal in 100% of the post-operatory corneas. Activated keratocytes were found within 56.7 ± 17.31µ of stromal depth in right eyes and 30.9 ± 13.74 µ (p ‹ 0.05) in left eyes (eyes treated with mitomycin-C) at 1 week after surgery.
Conclusion: Confocal microscopy findings after PRK in eyes treated by using mitomycin-C showed less stromal depth with activated keratocytes one week after surgery.
