ABSTRACT
The case of a 57 years old man referred from another institution with diagnosis of lesion of the aortic arch by a hemodialysis catheter is presented. The catheter was tried to be introduced through the right internal jugular vein, apparently without complications, but control radiographs showed a right pleural effusion and anomalous position of the catheter, which was confirmed by computed tomography. Through a midline sternotomy, the catheter penetrating the aorta just below the brachiocephalic artery could be observed. After placing a double purse-string suture with prolene 4-0, the catheter was removed without complications. The patient evolved satisfactorily and was discharged 36 h later to his hospital of origin.REFERENCES
