ABSTRACT
Objective: To know some characteristics about sexual behavior and their conditional factors in climateric patients and their mates, including opinions about contraceptive methods. The purpose is identify the factibility a viability to design later an educative program.
Material and methods: The design of the study was exploratory and prospective over a 100 aleatory climateric patients sample users of the Instituto Nacional de Perinatología. The instrument was a precodified questionnaire Liker scaled to explore opinions, attitudes and beliefs during climateric. It was applied by nurses.
Results: The average age of the sample was 47.6 years, married 67%, with basic scholarship in 65%. 33% of climateric women has a nuclear family and 12% never had children. Over 50% talk about sexuality with relatives and friends but it was very low with their mates. The most frequent change in their sexual activity was a decrease in frequency of sexual intercourse, close related with complaints such as vaginal dryness, pain, diminished desire and affective disorders. A 55% of the men has some erection failure. The results of masturbation was unsatisfactory or unpleasant in general. The sample showed large ignorance and diversity of opinions about contraceptive methods.
Conclusions: Results shows the necessity to pay educative attention to this sector of the population for improve their life quality.
