ABSTRACT
Prophylactic use of transfusion of blood products is not indicated in modern cardiac surgery. Bleeding after cardiac surgery is very common, 10-25% of transfusion of blood products annually in the United States are in heart surgery. Reducing blood transfusion for their side effects and the risk that patients may develop after it has become a priority in Intensive Care Units Post-surgical. The acute lung injury in post-heart surgery related to transfusion (LPART) is a form of lung injury associated with the transfusion and is one of the most serious transfusion reactions and the second cause of death for transfusion. The damage cardiopulmonary secondary to transfusion is increasingly reported in our Units, acute lung injury or «alveolar edema low pressure» associated with the transfusion is one of the principal causes of morbility and prolonged stay.
