ABSTRACT
In recent years, the practice of placing an intergastric balloon by way of endoscopy as a solution for rapid weight loss has become popular, but along the with it various unforeseen complications have also developed. Here we present the clinical case of a 19 year old female patient, who had the intergastric balloon placed for weight loss reasons. The intergastric device remained inside her for nine months without any medical supervision. The endoscopist later made several attempts to remove the device but was unsuccessful due to rupture and fragility of the device of the balloon. Laparoscopy was then used to remove the balloon and to do a bariatric procedure. The postoperative evolution of the patient was satisfactory and the weight loss in a three month period was well within the expectations for her laparoscopic procedure. The purpose of this report is to propose the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy as a practical procedure after the removal of an intergastric balloon on the patient when the extraction is not possible via endoscope, and at the same time offer a define solution for obesity.
