ABSTRACT
Introduction. The microorganisms belonging to the genus
Aeromonas are isolated more and more frequently from nonintestinal infections.
Objective. To identify up to species and to test the antimicrobial susceptibility of specimens isolated.
Materials and Methods. During the period from January 2005 to December 2006, 44 specimes of the genus
Aeromonas were isolated on culture from blood samples taken by local microbiology laboratories, wich were sent to the National Reference Laboratory for Acute Diarrhoeal Diseases of the “Pedro Kourí” Tropical Medicine Institute.
Results. Aeromonas jandaei was the species most frequently found.
Aeromonas hydrophila, Aeromonas caviae y
Aeromonas jandaei presented a common resistence pattern to the antibiotic carbenicillin, novobiocin, penicilin, ampicillin and meticilin. All the studied isolates were resistant to penicilin.
Conclusions. The present investigation contributed to the knowdedge of the increasing numbers of this etiological agent found in septics infections and the microbial testing for the
Aeromonas strains tested with the antimicrobiotics choosen.
