ABSTRACT
Primary hyperparathyroidism is a rare disease in children. It can be caused by a solitary adenoma, or by multiglandular hyperplasia, and is rarely caused by parathyroid carcinoma. The diagnosis is made when there are hypercalcemia and high serum parathyroid hormone concentratations, but in many patients the end organ damage is the first manifestation. We report the case of a male adolescent who presented nephrolithiasis and a parathyroid adenoma. Although an uncommon illness, it carries a high morbidity, an early diagnostic and treatment is necessary to prevent serious and permanent sequelae.
