ABSTRACT
We studied six children with mild psychomotor disabilities, with different diagnosis, trying to explore the difficulty, commonly found, to establish an adequate diagnosis of the visual function and if there exists amblyopia. During the time of intervention the children continued receiving rehabilitation and psychological interventions. Methods: the following steps were observed:
a) Correction of the visual acuity was made under the same system for all the children.
b) In all cases we tried to get a better function when there was amblyopia, accommodative deficits or lack of coordination.
c) Search the peripheral fusion of the images in every child through visual therapy.
d) Trying to normalize the macular fusion.
e) Develop the binocular vision in open spaces with prisms and surgery.
f) Teach the fathers to continue the exercises at home.
Results: In every patient we obtained satisfactory results in quantitative measurements of visual acuity, as in the accomplishment in other areas of rehabilitation. Working with these children in a multidisciplinary approach will make easier for them to progress in their social development towards better and happier lives.
