ABSTRACT
We conducted a retrospective-descriptive study to report the principal mechanisms and type of frontal sinus fractures, associated lesions, surgical procedures performed and complications. Fourteen fully documented cases of frontal sinus fractures that underwent surgical osteosynthesis and revaluated with computed axial tomography. All the cases were admitted in the ENT department of Hospital Central Militar, Mexico. D.F., from February 1998 to November 2002. Of the total, 92.8% were male and the principal causes of fracture were due to street fights, secondly motor vehicle accident and other accidents. The associated fractures were orbital, maxillary sinus fractures, and nasal fractures. The surgical procedures performed were cranealization and disfunctionalization with reduction and osteosynthesis of the frontal sinus. The most important complication secondary to the original trauma was visual loss, and postoperatory pain at the site of the fracture secondary to surgical procedure.
