ABSTRACT
Since its origins, mankind has had the need to cure disease; plants were obviously the first option for this goal. The development of medicine drove the use of herbs to oblivion, even to the point of considering them harmless. However, trends in health beginning in the mid-sixties and early seventies retook herbal medicine and started using herbs as medicine supplements. Herb-drug interactions described subsequently led to the need for government health agencies in charge of regulating this situation. In 1996, the sales of herbal medicine products in the USA were estimated at 1.2 billion dollars. Nowadays, this industry has gained even more acceptance by the general public. This is why a better understanding of interactions between herbs and drugs used in the various areas of medicine is much needed.
