ABSTRACT
Investigation purpose: To study if psychomotricity is a stimulating mechanism influence in the socialization, language, self-assistance, congnition and motor development areas in the treatment of a group of two years old children with anarthritic language retard.Material and methods: Four patients with anarthritic language retard were prospectively estudied from March to August, 2002. They were divided into two groups, group A (exposed to psychomotricity), and group B (not exposed to psychomotricity). Each group was formed by two patients that agreed to accomplish the therapy sessions, a weekly hour of specific language therapy, during six months for both groups, using the same methodology; and a weekly hour of psychomotricity during six month, exclusively for group A. All patients were evaluated with the Portage Guidelines (1) to determine the development level in socialization, language, self-assistance, cognition and motor development areas at the beginning and end of the investigation.
Results: Group A obtained the best results in the areas evaluated by the Portage Guidelines.
Conclusion: The results suggest that if psychomotricity is included in early intervention of language disorders, patients might have a better development in socialization, language, self-assisitance, cognition and motor development areas.
