Dysembrioplastic neuroepithelial tumor. Autopsy finding in an 85 years-old woman

ABSTRACT

The neuroepithelial dysembrioplastic tumor belongs to the group of neuronal and glioneuronal tumors in the WHO classification. This tumor accounts for 1 to 2% of the CNS neoplasms and occurs mainly in males during the second and third decades of life. In this paper, an autopsy case of an 85-year-old female is reported. A lesion with mucinous aspect was found in the left hippocampus, which microscopically had the specific glioneuronal component, contained in pools of mucin and therefore the diagnosis of neuroepithelial dysembrioplastic tumor was made.
