ABSTRACT
Purpose. To report two cases of duplication of the phallus (bifid penis), reviewing the literature and considerations on this uncommon congenital abnormally.
Case reports. We report two cases of penis duplication. The first case was associated with bladder and urethra duplications, ectopic kidney, urointestinal fistula, imperforate anus, colon duplication and cleft spine. In the second patient bifid penis was associated with urethral duplication and bifid scrotum. Therapy for these patients must be individualized according to the concomitant malformations. A review of literature on these anomalies was done. The first patient underwent a correction of the malformations of the gastrointestinal and urointestinal fistulae. The second patient underwent excision of left penis. In a literature revision, we realized that the penis duplication is often associated with genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, hepatic, and cardiac anomalies.
Discussion. Duplication of the penis is an uncommon congenital anomaly and therapy must be personalized always. Associated malformations should be treated first.
