ABSTRACT
Current state of the autopsy in Cuba and in some other countries is discussed. We emphasize the decrease of post-mortem studies occurred in the last years, and it must be reversed (even autopsy index in Cuba is higher than in other countries, it represents 58% of hospital deaths). We propose that better use of autopsy, by every participant in the process, will rescue it as the most complete study method for patients and diseases alike, and to guarantee quality in medicine. Necessary steps are detailed, especially about rounds and actions that, once the autopsy is completed, will allow us to use the information provided to attain the highest possible quality in services offered to patients.
