ABSTRACT
Relapsing polychondritis is a chronic and progressive autoimmune disease characterized by recurrent inflammatory attacks and destruction of cartilaginous structures and connective tissue, produced by circulating complexes, antibodies against type II, IX, XI collagen in association with HLA DR4. RP is considered a rare disease with only 600 cases reported in the world literature. In Mexico 18 cases have been reported. The cause is unknown, although an autoimmune mechanism has been proposed.
