Vaginal atresia. Building a vagina with homologous heteroplastic graft, personal technique

ABSTRACT

The author presents the case of a 24 years-old woman married white, with embryologic vaginal agenesia. No urologic tract anomalies were presented. A vagina was built out of homologous tissues obtained from another woman treated in a second-degree uterine prolapse. The blood groups and Rh factor were similar in both females. The patient was hospitalized only 19 days, and within 45 days was able to have sexual intercourse. Six months later the vagina was 7.0 cm. deep with elastic walls. The grafted vaginal tissues showed through a serial of cytological studies that were well preserved in the basal as well as in the stratified layers.
