ABSTRACT
We analyzed 608 samples of urine for urocultive and urianalysis in patients of both sexs and of 0 up to 15 years of age. Two hundred and ninety four urocultives were positives (48.3%) and 314 negatives (51.7%). In urocultives were found
E. coli in 103,
Enterococcus sp in 43,
Klebsiella sp in 41,
Staphylococcus in 25,
Pseudomonas sp in 23, fungi in 17,
Proteus sp 14,
Salmonella sp in 4 and
Serratia sp in 3 samples. Detection of esterase was positive in samples with one or more leucocytes per camp observed on the microscope to 40X and test for nitrites was positive in samples with bacterias ++ in urinary sediment. The two tests have a specificity of 92% and 95% respectively and both together with urinary sediment have a sensibility of 99% and specificity of 99%; therefore medition of esterase, nitrites and observation of bacterias Gram positives and Gram negatives in urinary sediment; they can be sensible and specific tests for the diagnosis of urinary tract infection obtaining reliable results the same day.
