ABSTRACT
Objective: The purpose of the present work was to determine the seroprevalence of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in our hospital, taking into account the seric levels of IgG anti-CMV.
Material and methods: The concentration of IgG anti-CMV was determined in all serum samples that was that were remitted to the Laboratory of Virology of our hospital. Samples with a positive result were groupping by concentration ranges and patients were divided by gender (female and male) and by origin (internal and external).
Results: 968 serum samples were analized. From these, 825 (85.23%) had a positive result for IgG anti-CMV and from these, 57.21% were female and 56% were external. The analysis shows that the 76% of the population are found inside the rank of concentration of IgG anti-CMV ›0.6-20 UI/mL with a general average of 6.48 ± 0.18 UI/mL. While the 24% of the samples present a concentration of IgG anti-CMV› 20 UI/mL.
Conclusions: The seroprevalence of CMV in a hospital of third level is similar to that exists in the remainder of the population. It is clear a dominate of both the female and the external patient. According to the analysis of the IgG anti-CMV concentrations. It is suggested that the 24% of the population presents an acute infection by CMV while the 76% of the population presents a concentration of immunoglobulin that suggests that is an asymptomatic bearer of CMV.
