ABSTRACT
Objective: To compare the efficacy and tolerability of polidocanol 1% in the treatment of varices degree I and II with compressive technique in the proximal third affected and technique without compression.
Patients and methods: This is a prospective, randomized, longitudinal and comparative study of selected cases. We studied a total of 248 female patients with varices degree I and II who arrived for first time or subsequent to extern consult of Centro Dermatológico “Dr. Ladislao de la Pascua” from August 2007 to May 2008. We performed sclerotherapy with compression in the proximal third affected in 124 cases and without compression in the other half of patients.
Results: We observe improvement of 100% after first session of sclerotherapy in 44% of poblation with technique of compression, compared with 23% of patients without compressive technique. The rest of patients of booth groups need other sessions.
Conclusions: We observed no difference into 45 days after sclerotherapy with polidocanol 1%, between the technique with compression and without one.
