ABSTRACT
Introduction: In the educational field, evaluation has been a constant concern for those who intervene in the teachinglearning process, and implies a qualitative estimation along with involved factors that go farther than technical rationality and accumulation of information. This means that evaluation should consider the learning process since the educational intentionality and representation of reality and should be based on reflective, educational strategies. Objective: To design and validate a measuring instrument to evaluate the clinical aptitude of nurses when managing patients with IPD.
Methodology: A transversal, descriptive study was done in hospitalization areas of Lerdo de Tejada, Cardel, and Poza Rica, Veracruz. 30 professional nurses integrated the sample; a measuring instrument was validated on the base of four real clinical cases, constituted by 200 items.
Results: The instrument obtained a confiability coefficient of 0.82 when applying Kuder-Richardson’s formula, and 27 when applying Perez-Padilla-Viniegra’s formula to estimate explainable results by randomized effect. The clinical aptitude was low with 43% and very low with 40% obtaining the lowest score for the indicator of diagnostic integration.
Conclusions: A valid and reliable instrument was obtained, finding that the levels of nurses’ clinical aptitude within the three groups were low and very low.
