ABSTRACT
Among the diverse type of anemia, ferropenic anemia distinguishes itself by its presence in all groups of age, which are attended by diverse specialists in addition to hematologists, pediatricians, gynecologists, nutritionists, surgeons, etcetera. Pathogenenesis: Because of the role that iron plays in the respiratory chain, it is fundamental for aerobic metabolic process that take place to obtain energy. Its deficit diminishes the vital capacity of the cells as well as the organism as a whole, thus lowering the quality of life. The clinical manifestations of this pathology are unspecific (asthenia, adynamic, dizziness, mild depression, muscular fatigue) which makes timely attention to these patients difficult. As a result, doctors prescribe vitamins and minerals as food supplements. In the best of cases this causes a slight improvement of the patients, but delays and complicates a correct and timely diagnosis. Such a diagnosis, in the event that it come about, is able to provide important data about illnesses that could put the life of the patient in danger, although they are curable. To maintain the vital balance of the patient, it is very important to look for hemorrhagic danger points caused by gastritis, gastric ulcers, haemorrhoids, miomas, polymenorrea, etcetera. A special mention is due for pregnant women, as the majority show signs of anemia (low haemoglobin) while only a few have a deficit of iron. In the absence of a correct diagnosis, many of the latter are trated with medications based on iron, without this being necessary.REFERENCES
