ABSTRACT
The intraosseous access (IOA) is an important procedure in E.R. Is more used in pediatric population. The IOA started to be used in 1922 when the bone marrow anatomy was described and was used in animals for liquid infusion. In 1934 Josefson used this acces way in humans administrating liver tissue for anemia throuhg the sternum. In 1988 the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics in the PALS course improved this venous access in children with shock and in whom the periphereal acces can not get in 90 seconds or after three attempts. This paper describes the technique, complications and indications for the IOA.
