ABSTRACT
The Hippocratic Oath is considered an ideal of medical behavior, according to Greek humanism. However, in the Middle Age, when it was accepted by the Catholic Church, it suffered changes which continue at present. The first oath application was at Wittenberg University, Germany on 1508. It was irregularly used until after the Second World War, with the discovery of Nazis medical experiments. On 1947 appeared the Geneva Declaration, and on 1948 the ethical principles of the American Medical Association. It is analyzed the validity of the eight Oath paragraphs, according to the present changes on medical attention and health services. Is necessary dictate clear, precise, and according to our reality rules, and the public commitment of doctors to observe them.
